• 1937 - Pee Wee King & the Golden West Cowboys debuted at the Grand Ole Opry.
• 1942 - Capitol Records is launched by Glenn Wallichs. One of his early innovations is the use of promo records to send out to radio DJs.
• 1969 - Natives of Glenrowen, Australia start a petition to block Mick Jagger from being cast as local hero Ned Kelly.
• 1974 - David Bowie started his Diamond Dogs tour in Montreal.
• 1974 - Porter Wagoner performed together at the Grand Ole Opry for the final time.
• 1975 - The Rolling Stones become the first western rock band to receive a royalty check for songs aired in Russia.
• 1984 - Lorrie Morgan joined The Grand Ole Opry.
• 1985 - Elton John sued Dick James Music for the rights to his earlier songs, estimated to be worth $51 million.
• 1986 - The first of six Conspiracy for Hope concerts for Amnesty International was held at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Those on the bill included U2, Sting, Bryan Adams, Peter Gabriel, Lou Reed, Joan Baez and the Neville Brothers.
• 1986 - The producers of the show Beatlemania are told to pay $10 million to Apple Corps Ltd. after it was deemed their production was "too much like" the Beatles.
• 1992 - Smokey Robinson was sued by his half sister, Rose Ella Jones, for royalty payments on songs that she cowrote in the 80's.
• 1992 - Young Elvis beat old, Las Vegas Elvis in a poll by the U.S. Postal Service to determine which of the two designs would be used for a commemorative stamp.
• 1993 - Kurt Cobain was arrested for fighting over his collection of firearms.
• 1994 - Oasis was on the cover of Britain's NME for the first time.
• 1996 - It was announced that Crowded House had split up.
• 1997 - The body of Jeff Buckley, who had disappeared on May 29, was discovered floating in the Mississippi River.
• 1998 - Ray Charles celebrated his 50th year in entertainment with a show at the 15th Chicago Blues Festival.
• 1998 - Reba McEntire, Brooks and Dunn and Hanson do a charity show to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network.
• 1999 - A crowd panic ended a Tim McGraw show in Pontiac, MI when a female concertgoer used mace on a man who she claimed had groped her.
• 2000 - A fan of Sisqo was shot in the leg at his Phoenix, AZ concert after disputes broke out over $30 parking fees.
• 2000 - Police arrested Eminem and three of his people after trouble broke out outside a Warren, MI bar.
• 2001 - Spinal Tap "returned" to the stage at the Toyota Comedy Festival in New York.
• 2002 - George Michael was booed on a CNN news program when he tried to explain that his new video, that included George Bush and Tony Blair in bed together, was an indictment of Blair and not Bush.
• 2002 - Wyclef Jean was arrested at a rally protesting the reduction in education spending in the state.
