  • 1966 - Big Brother & the Holding Company make their first live appearance with new lead singer Janis Joplin.
  • 1966 - Steve Marriott collapsed on stage on the U.K. TV show Ready Steady Go. He was performing with his group Small Faces. 
  • 1967 - The KFRC Fantasy Fair & Magic Mountain Festival in Marin County, CA is considered to be the first rock festival. Over two days, performers included the Miracles, the Byrds, Wilson Pickett, the Seeds, the Blues Magoos, Jefferson Airplane, the Doors and Country Joe & the Fish.
  • 1971 - Police tear gas the crowd at a Jethro Tull concert in Denver, CO.
  • 1976 - Alice Cooper collapsed right before his Goes to Hell tour is to begin. The tour is cancelled.
  • 1977 - Joe Strummer and Nicky Headon of The Clash are fined in a London court for spray painting the band name on a wall.
  • 1978 - During a Rolling Stone tour opener in Lakewood, FL, Bill Wyman falls off the stage.
  • 1981 - Andy Gibb opened in the Los Angeles production of Gilbert & Sullivan's The Pirates of Penzance.
  • 1981 - Bob Dylan kicked off his Shot of Love tour in Chicago.
  • 1981 - Asia is formed by Steve Howe, Geoff Downes, John Wetton and Carl Palmer.
  • 1986 - The Grateful Dead were forced to cancel their current tour when Jerry Garcia goes into a diabetic coma for five days.
  • 1988 - Ricky Van Shelton became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
  • 1990 - Members of 2 Live Crew are arrested and charged with obscenity after a show in Hollywood, FL.
  • 1991 - Eddie Kendricks of the Temptations was arrested at the funeral of David Ruffin for owing $26,000 in child support. Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin sang at the ceremony and Michael Jackson paid all of the costs.
  • 1992 - A Los Angeles judge throws out a $25 million palimony suit against Rod Stewart by model Kelly Emberg. 
  • 1993 - Sinead O'Connor bought a full page ad in the Irish Times asking people to "stop hurting me please."
  • 1998 - DMX (Earl Simmons) is arrested on charges of rape, sodomy and unlawful imprisonment.
  • 2002 - Marti Pellow of Wet Wet Wet made his London West End premier in the musical Chicago.
  • 2004 - Peter Garrett of Midnight Oil announced he was running for the Australian Parliament.
  • 2006 - Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones got together at a secret rehearsal space to play together for the first time in eleven years. They were running through music for the Ahmet Ertegun tribute that would happen in the fall.
  • 2007 - The Rollings Stones played the Isle of Wight Festival, their first U.K. festival appearance since Knebworth Fair in 1976.
  • 2009 - Chastity Bono, daughter of Cher and Sonny Bono, underwent a sex change operation.
