- 1965 - The Beatles started a 14-city tour of Europe in Paris.
- 1969 - Jimi Hendrix was paid $125,000 to play the Newport Jazz Festival, the largest fee for a performance to-date.
- 1969 - David Bowie signs with Mercury Records.
- 1970 - The first Glastonbury Festival began and ran through the 24th. Artists included Fairport Convention, David Bowie, Traffic and Hawkwind.
- 1975 - The Talking Heads performed their first show at CBGB.
- 1977 - Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead suffered multiple broken bones after driving his car into a canyon.
- 1981 - Gerry Cott quit the Boomtown Ratts.
- 1986 - The fourth annual Prince's Trust Rock Gala was held in London with Phil Collins, Dire Straits, Tina Turner and Elton John.
- 1987 - Aerosmith opened their Permanent Vacation Tour in Dallas, TX.
- 1987 - A concert at Radio City Music Hall celebrated the return of Dion to New York after 15 years. Also appearing were the Del-Satins, the Brooklyn Bridge, the Five Satins and Carlo of the Belmonts.
- 2000 - The Ronettes were awarded $2.6 million in back royalties from Phil Spector.
- 2004 - Paul McCartney played his 3,000th live show in Petersburg, Russia (2,535 with the Quarrymen/Beatles, 140 with Wings, 325 solo)
