On This Day:

• 1949 - Hank Williams played his last Louisiana Hayride show before moving to Nashville.
• 1956 - Al Alberts was replaced by Fred Diodati in the Four Aces.
• 1964 - Ringo Starr came down with tonsillitis and pharyngitis, forcing session drummer Jimmy Nichol to become a Beatle for the beginning of their world tour.
• 1970 - Ray Davies was forced to fly from New York to London to change the words Coca Cola to Cherry Cola on the Kinks latest single Lola. The BBC would not play the record due to its no advertising policy.
• 1972 - The Rolling Stones started the North American leg of their Exile on Main Street tour in Vancouver, BC.
• 1982 - Graceland opened to tourists.
• 1983 - Drummer Jim Gordon (Derek & the Dominoes, Delaney & Bonnie) killed his mother with a hammer. He was diagnosed as a schizophrenic at his trial the next year and was sentenced to 16 years-to-life in prison.
• 1987 - The BBC banned I Want Your Sex by George Michael.
• 1990 - Michael Jackson was admitted to the hospital suffering from chest pains. He was diagnosed with bruised ribs from dancing practice.
• 1993 - U2 resigned for six albums with Island Records.
• 1998 - A chunk of ceiling fell on Alex Van Halen's arm while Van Halen did a soundcheck in Hamburg, Germany causing the cancellation of the concert. 
• 2000 - Dickey Betts is arrested after threatening his wife with a knife.
• 2000 - Kenny Chesney is arrested in Buffalo, NY after riding off on a mounted police officer's horse. Tim McGraw was also arrested for interfering. They were eventually acquitted.
• 2002 - The Queen's Jubilee concert was held at Buckingham Palace with performances by Paul McCartney, Elton John, Sting, Brian Wilson, Cliff Richard, Ozzy Osbourne, Atomic Kitten, the Coors, Will Young, and S Club 7.
• 2003 - Barry Manilow received a broken nose and was unconscious for four hours when he walked into a wall at his home.
• 2003 - A lawsuit brought by Stewart Copeland against the surviving members of the Doors is settled. Copeland sued after he was replaced in the reunited group by Ty Dennis.
• 2004 - One of the child abuse charges against Michael Jackson is dropped by the Los Angeles police.
• 2005 - Kelly Osbourne checked herself into rehabilitation. Her second album, Sleeping in the Nothing, is scheduled to be released within days.
