  • 1959 - Dick Clark and Irvin Feld join forces to produce four package tours called the Dick Clark Caravans.
  • 1966 - 500 police are needed to control the crowd when the Beatles play Tokyo.
  • 1967 - Mick Jagger and Keith Richards are sentenced to jail for drug possession. They successfully appeal the sentence.
  • 1968 - The first free concert ever is held in Hyde Park, London, with Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Roy Harper.
  • 1969 - Noel Redding announced that he had quit the Jimi Hendrix Experience. The group ended up playing their last show at the Denver Pop Festival.
  • 1973 - Ian Gillan quit Deep Purple.
  • 1973 - Scorpions play their first live show with Uli Roth.
  • 1974 - Neil Peart replaced John Rustey in Rush.
  • 1976 - The City of Memphis renames a road as Elvis Presley Blvd.
  • 1978 - Peter Frampton was in a car crash while in the Bahamas, breaking his arm and cracking several ribs.
  • 1978 - David Bowie opened his Low/Heroes World Tour in London.
  • 1984 - Bruce Springsteen kicked off his Born in the U.S.A. tour in St. Paul, MN.
  • 1988 - Lionel Richie's wife, Brenda, was arrested after allegedly hitting her husband and a woman he was found in bed with. Charges were eventually dropped.
  • 1996 - George Martin became Sir George Martin as he received his Knighthood. Van Morrison received an OBE.
  • 1998 - George Harrison announced that he was being treated for throat cancer.
  • 1999 - Michael Jackson was severely bruised but nothing was broken when he fell 50 feet during a concert in Munich.
  • 1999 - Madonna sued her accounting firm for malpractice. 
  • 1999 - Leif Garret was arrested during a sting operation for drugs.
  • 2000 - Eight men were trampled to death at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark during a Pearl Jam show.
  • 2000 - Ron Wood checked into rehab for alcohol addiction.
  • 2000 - Eminem's mother sued him for $10 million for defamation of character. At issues was the line "My mother smokes more dope than I do" in the song My Name Is.
  • 2004 - Courtney Love showed up five hours late to a court hearing and was reprimanded by the judge. She plead guilty to disorderly conduct which were discharged with the agreement that she pay the victim's medical bills and join a drug program.
  • 2007 - Lily Allen was questioned about an assault on a photographer.
  • 2008 - Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is released. It's the first of the music video games to be based on a single group.
