  • 1959 - Roy Drusky joined the Grand Ole Opry.
  • 1964 - The Beatles played their first show ever in New Zealand. 
  • 1968 - The Jeff Beck group with Rod Stewart made their U.S. debut in New York.
  • 1971 - The second Glastonbury Festival was held over the next five days. Artists included David Bowie, Hawkwind, Fairport Convention, Melanie, Family and Traffic.
  • 1981 - Mark David Chapman plead guilty to the murder of John Lennon.
  • 1984 - The movie Rhinestone, starring Dolly Parton and Sylvester Stalone, opens to mostly poor reviews.
  • 1988 - Dennis Lobban was convicted in the murder of Peter Tosh.
  • 1992 - Kurt Cobain was taken to the hospital after a show in Belfast, Ireland with severe stomach pains caused by ulcers.
  • 1992 - Three crew members for M.C. Hammer were wounded in a drive-by shooting.
  • 1993 - Ozzy Osbourne came out of retirement and announced he would tour with Black Sabbath.
  • 1995 - Newsman Dan Rather performed What's the Frequency Kenneth? with R.E.M. during a sound check.
  • 1996 - Police in Oak Park, MI found the bodies of Motown songwriter and brother of Diana Ross, Arthur Ross and his wife. It was estimated they had been murdered at the end of May.
  • 2001 - Lil' Mo is injured after a concert when a man hits her in the head with a bottle.
  • 2003 - Nick Oshiro replaced Ken Jay in Static-X.
  • 2004 - The annual Lollapalooza touring festival was cancelled due to low ticket sales.
