• 1950 - The Grand Ole Opry was televised for the first time.
• 1961 - Bob Dylan played harmonica on three songs for Carolyn Hester's debut album. Producer John Hammond is so impressed he signs him to Columbia.
• 1963 - Sid Bernstein first contacted Brian Epstein about the Beatles. He would go on to promote many of their tours.
• 1967 - BBC Radio 1 went on the air with DJ Tony Blackburn signing on with the Move's Flowers in the Rain.
• 1968 - Writer Hunter Davies published The Beatles, the first authorized biography of the group.
• 1969 - David Crosby's girlfriend, Christine Hilton, was killed in a car crash near San Francisco.
• 1971 - Rick Wakeman made his first live appearance with Yes.
• 1987 - The Roy Orbison special A Black and White Night is shot at the Coconut Grove in Los Angeles with a myriad of special guests including Bruce Springsteen, Bonnie Raitt, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and more.
• 1988 - John Lennon gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
• 1991 - Liza Minnelli received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
• 1992 - Steve Earle was arrested for failing to appear for jury duty in Nashville.
• 1993 - Kate Pierson of the B-52's was arrested at an anti-fur protest and charged with criminal mischief and trespassing.
• 1994 - R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe signed a movie deal with New Line Cinema.
• 1996 - Tiny Tim suffered a heart attack while performing his signature song, Tip-Toe Through the Tulips, in Montague, MA.
• 1997 - Randy Travis became the first artist to sign with DreamWorks Records Nashville.
• 2002 - British band Hear'Say, winners of the Popstars competition program, announced they were breaking up.
• 2006 - Farm Aid 2006 was held in Camden, NJ with Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, Jerry Lee Lewis with Roy Head, Los Lonely Boys, Arlo Guthrie, Gov't Mule, Steve Earle and Allison Moorer, Steel Pulse, Shelby Lynne, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Jimmy Sturr & his Orchestra, Pauline Reese and Danielle Evin.
• 2007 - Keith Urban crashed his motorcycle while being pursued by a photographer in Sydney, Australia. He was uninjurred.
