  • 1960 - The Federal Communications act was amended to make it illegal to accept cash or gifts in exchange for airplay.
  • 1960 - A campaign was begun in the U.K. to have Ray Peterson's Tell Laura I Love Her banned. 
  • 1963 - Graham Nash fell out of the Hollies van while it was traveling 40 MPH.
  • 1969 - John Lennon and Yoko Ono performed at Toronto's Rock & Roll Revival Show with a band that included Eric Clapton, Alan White and Klaus Voormann. The performance became the album Live Peach in Toronto. Other appearing included Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Alice Cooper, Gene Vincent and The Doors.
  • 1974 - Stevie Wonder started his first tour since his near-fatal car accident.
  • 1979 - ABBA kicked of their first North American tour in Edmonton, Alberta.
  • 1985 - Sting opened his first solo tour in San Diego, CA.
  • 1989 - Sting made his stage debut in The Three Penny Opera in Washington, DC.
  • 1991 - The members of Nirvana were thrown out of their own party put on by Geffen Records to promote the single Smells Like Teen Spirit. They had started a food fight.
  • 2000 - Elton John left a concert in Lisbon, Portugal without playing a note after audience members were slow to leave a VIP party.
  • 2001 - Whitney Houston's publicist had to quickly dispel the rumor that the singer died of a drug overdose.
  • 2003 - The U.S. Postal Service issued a stamp honoring Roy Acuff.
  • 2005 - The childhood home of Jimi Hendrix was saved from demolition at the last minute.
  • 2005 - The Sex Pistols were added to the Walk of Fame in Covent Garden, London.
