  • 1957 - The film Mister Rock and Roll, the biography of Alan Freed and starring Alan Freed, premiers in New York.
  • 1962 - Elvis Presley received an invitation to perform at the Royal Variety Performance in the U.K. but Colonel Tom Parker turned it down. Parker was an illegal Dutch immigrant and was afraid that he wouldn't be allowed back in the U.S.
  • 1965 - Bob Dylan opened a U.S. tour in Austin, TX.
  • 1967 - Traffic played live for the first time in London.
  • 1977 - The first Elvis Presley National Convention was held in Memphis, TN.
  • 1988 - James Brown is arrested for allegedly threatening a women's meeting with a handgun and having an hour chase with police.
  • 1988 - Baillie & The Boys made their Grand Ole Opry debut.
  • 1993 - Steven Adler of Guns N' Roses reached a settlement of $2.5 million with the band over his firing.
  • 1995 - The Charlatans were arrested by 24 police officers after coming off a flight from to New York, accused of trying to disrupt the plane's flight path, drunkenness and other infractions.
  • 1997 - A student who killed two pupils and a teacher at a school in Washington claimed he was reenacting scenes from the Pearl Jam video Jeremy.
  • 1997 - Brenda Lee, Harlan Howard and Cindy Walker were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
  • 1998 - Steven Adler, formerly of Guns N' Roses, was sentenced to 150 days in prison for beating two women and a probation violation.
