- 1961 - The Beach Boys had their first professional recording session. Known at the times as the Peddletones, they recorded the song Surfin'.
- 1964 - A Beatles show in Cleveland, OH was stopped half-way through when fans broke through a police line and got on stage. Order was eventually restored and the concert continued.
- 1965 - Ford became the first car maker to offer an 8-track player as an option.
- 1968 - The Doors performed in Amsterdam without Jim Morrison who, earlier in the evening, had collapsed while watching the Jefferson Airplane perform.
- 1974 - Gary Thain, bassist for Uriah Heap was almost electrocuted to death in a stage accident.
- 1978 - Bob Dylan started what would be, to this time, his longest tour of the U.S. in Augusta, Maine.
- 1982 - Queen performed their last concert in the U.S. with Freddie Mercury in Inglewood, CA.
- 1988 - Mark Knopfler officially announced the break up of Dire Straits.

- 1997 - A 34-year-old French man was awarded £20,000 claiming that he was deafened after standing in front of a speaker at a U2 concert.

- 1998 - Coolio was arrested for suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon and marijuana possession.
- 2003 - Madonna's first children's book, The English Roses, is published.
- 2003 - Johnny Cash was buried in Hendersonville, TN.
- 2005 - The biopic of Johnny Cash, I Walk the Line, premiered in Toronto, ON.
- 2006 - The place where the Beatles played their first concert, The Casbah Coffee Club in Liverpool, was giving protected status.
- 2006 - The Knack sued Run-D.M.C. for sampling a portion of their hit My Sharona on their song It's Tricky.
- 2007 - Rihanna opened a North American and European tour in Vancouver, BC.
