• 1946 - Hank and Audrey Williams took a trip to Nashville to audition for Fred Rose.
• 1963 - The producers of ABC's show Hootenanny, who were plagued by numerous folk singers refusing to perform on the program, invite former blacklist member Pete Seeger to perform. He refuses after they ask him to sign a pledge of loyalty to the U.S. 
• 1968 - Roy Orbison's home in Nashville burnt down, killing his two oldest sons. 
• 1969 - Genesis got paid for playing for the first time at an English cottage owned by Peter Gabriel's former Sunday school teacher.
• 1978 - The Grateful Dead played at the foot of the Great Pyramid in Egypt.
• 1979 - The film version of the Who's Quadrophenia was released.
• 1979 - Kenny Rogers received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
• 1981 - Production on the movie version of Pink Floyd's The Wall began.
• 1988 - Prince opened the North American leg of his Lovesexy world tour in Minneapolis, MN.
• 1994 - Steve Earle was sentenced to one year in prison for possession of crack cocaine.
• 1994 - The Temptations received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

• 1995 - David Bowie opened his Outside tour in Hartford, CT. Opening were Nine Inch Nails.
• 1997 - The first English Heritage Blue Plaque was unveiled at 23 Brook Street in London, the building where Jimi Hendrix lived in 1968 and 1969. Pete Townshend did the honor.
• 1999 - The policeman who had previously arrested George Michael in a Los Angeles public lavatory sued the singer, saying that he was mocked in the video for Michael's song Outside.
• 1999 - The Strokes played live for the first time in New York.
• 1999 - Sheryl Crow played a free concert in New York's Central Park. Joining her were Eric Clapton, Sara McLachlan, the Dixie Chicks, Keith Richards, Stevie Nicks and Chrissie Hynde.
• 2000 - Rolling Stone magazine and VH1 held a fundraiser for Al Gore at Radio City Music Hall. Performing were Paul Simon, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Sheryl Crow and Crosby, Stills and Nash.
• 2003 - Gerry Marsden of Gerry & the Pacemakers had triple-bypass surgery.
• 2005 - Britney Spears became a mother for the first time.
• 2006 - Marianne Faithfull announced she was being treated for breast cancer.
• 2007 - The move Across the Universe, based around the music of the Beatles, opened.
• 2008 - Bruce Davidson of Iron Maiden used his pilot skills to fly some of the tourists from vacation destinations when one of Britain's largest tour operators went bankrupt.
• 2010 - George Michael was jailed for eight weeks for driving while under the influence of drugs.
