  • 1958 - Elvis Presley went on maneuvers with the U.S. Army.
  • 1960 - Arhoolie Records released their first album, Texas Sharecropper & Songster by Mance Lipscombe.
  • 1961 - The Country Music Hall of Fame inducted their first class, Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams and Fred Rose.
  • 1964 - After a 17 year-old fan fell from the balcony at a Rolling Stones show in Cleveland, the mayor banned all future rock concerts.
  • 1967 - The Beatles completed filming of Magical Mystery Tour.
  • 1977 - Elton John announced his retirement from live performing at a show in London.
  • 1983 - RCA Records signed Menudo for $30 million.
  • 1991 - A free concert was held in San Francisco for the late Bill Graham who had been killed a week earlier in a helicopter crash. Performing were Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Grateful Dead, Journey and Joan Baez.
  • 1992 - The Grateful Dead ended their traditional San Francisco New Year's Eve concert.
  • 1995 - Hootie & the Blowfish settled with Bob Dylan in their dispute over using Bob's lyrics in the song Only Want to Be With You.
  • 2000 - EMI dropped Simple Minds.
  • 2000 - Bon Jovi opened the U.S. portion of their Crush tour in Charlotte, NC.
  • 2003 - A memorial concert was put on for Elliott Smith. Performing were Beck, Beth Orton and Rilo Kiley.
