- 1966 - The English press broke the news that there would be no more Beatles tours.
- 1967 - The Beatles shot three promotional videos for their single Hello Goodbye. They couldn't be played on British TV because of lip-synching restrictions by the musicians union.
- 1973 - John Lennon asked for Phil Spector's help on an album of rock-and-roll covers.
- 1984 - Frankie Goes to Hollywood set a U.K. record for most advanced copies ordered of an album. 1,099,500 copies of Welcome to the Pleasure Dome were ordered.
- 1986 - Gordon Lightfoot received the Canadian Hall of Fame Award from Bob Dylan.
- 1988 - Steve Millers opened his first tour in six years in Burlington, VT.
- 1992 - Axl Rose of Guns N' Roses is found guilty of assault and property damage after inciting a riot at a 1991 concert in Maryland Heights, MO. He is put on probation and ordered to donate $10,000 each to five charities.
- 1994 - Robert Plant and Jimmy Page performed Stairway to Heaven on a Japanese TV program, saying it is the last time they will play the song. It wasn't.
- 2003 - A Johnny Cash tribute concert was held in Nashville with Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock, Steve Earle, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson.
- 2003 - Tommy Thompson of Chic and the Power Station announced that he had renal cancer.
- 2004 - Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) received the Man for Peace prize from Mikhail Gorbachev in Rome.
- 2007 - The mother of Kanye West died from complications from plastic surgery. Her passing had a profound effect on West's music.
