• 1956 - Elvis Presley's first movie, Love Me Tender, premiers in New York.
• 1964 - Brian Jones missed the last few dates on the current Rolling Stones tour after he went into the hospital with 105 degree fever.
• 1966 - The Doors signed a seven-record deal with Elektra Records.
• 1969 - Janis Joplin was arrested during a show in Tampa, FL after she swore and threatened a police officer who was moving fans back to their seats.
• 1969 - The Star Club in Hamburg, Germany, home of many early Beatles appearances, announces it will close at the end of November.
• 1978 - Echo and the Bunnymen play live for the first time in Liverpool, England.
• 1984 - KISS opened the U.S. leg of their Animalize tour in Bethlehem, PA.
• 1986 - For the first time in U.K. chart history, the top five singles were by female vocalists (Berlin, Kim Wilde, the Bangles, Mel and Kim, and Swing Out Sister.
• 1987 - Dire Straits' Brother in Arms became the first album in history to sell three-million copies in the U.K.
• 1988 - Metallica's ...and Justice For All tour opened in Toledo, OH.
• 1990 - Frank Farian, manager of Milli Vanilli, confirmed during a press conference that the frontmen of the group had not sung on the records.
• 1992 - Ozzy Osbourne announced he was retiring from touring saying “Who wants to be touring at 46?”
• 2000 - Michael Abram, the man who stabbed George Harrison in his home, received a not guilty verdict but was taken into custody due to his mental condition.
• 2002 - Downloads were added to the U.K. music charts.
• 2003 - Augusta, GA announced that they were going to erect a statue of James Brown and rename a music festival in his honor.
• 2005 - Robbie Williams stood up the rest of the members of Take That who were supposed to reunite in celebration of their Greatest Hits album.
• 2005 - Alabama, Glen Campbell and DeFord Bailey were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
