• 1969 - Elvis Presley played his first live engagement in eight years in Las Vegas.
• 1970 - Jimi Hendrix played Seattle, his hometown, for the last time.
• 1974 - The first Beatles Festival was held in Boston.
• 1977 - Led Zeppelin cancels the last seven days of their U.S. tour after Robert Plant's son dies of a respiratory virus. They would not play live in the U.S. again until Live Aid.
• 1977 - Elvis Costello was arrested while playing outside of a Columbia Records conference in London.
• 1979 - Rolling Stone magazine acknowledged the growing influence of music videos, including Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody.
• 1984 - Prince's Purple Rain premiered in Hollywood.
• 2000 - A federal judge issued an order to Napster to stop the trading of music by members of the RIAA by July 28.

• 2003 - Nicko McBrain of Iron Maiden is arrested in Wantagh, NY after running over a parking attendant.
