• 1966 - The Beatles were the first music group to play Tokyo's Nippon Budokan Hall. Locals protested the concert as inappropriate.
• 1969 - Mountain is formed by Leslie West and Felix Pappalardi.
• 1969 - Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell quit the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
• 1971 - Queen played their first show with the lineup of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon.
• 1973 - Brian Eno quit Roxy Music.
• 1976 - Brian Wilson joined the Beach Boys on stage for the first time in years.
• 1980 - Bob Weir and Mickey Hart of the Grateful Dead were arrested in San Diego for suspicion of starting a riot when they tried to break up a drug bust.
• 1981 - Bruce Springsteen played the first show in New Jersey's Brendan Byrne Arena Meadowlands Arena.
• 1982 - Nicky Headon of the Clash was arrested for stealing a bus stop sign.
• 1984 - Epic Records set a new record when they shipped two million copies of the Jackson's Victory to stores.
• 1987 - John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin came out of retirement to begin producing.
• 1990 - The Italian Catholic Church announced they would make efforts to stop Madonna from performing in Rome because of her inappropriate use of religious symbols.
• 1991 - Fifty fans were injured and 15 people were arrested when a riot broke out at a Guns N' Roses concert after Axl Rose jumped into the crowd to take a camera from a fan.
• 1992 - Mick Jagger became a grandfather when daughter Jade gave birth to a girl.
• 1997 - Bruce Springsteen received Sweden's Polar Music Prize, giving the cash prize to a Swedish school for wayward teenagers.
• 2001 - Liverpool Airport was renamed John Lennon Airport.
• 2003 - Great White cancelled their tour that was to benefit victims of the Rhode Island club fire due to money and insurance problems.
• 2003 - Delta Goodrem was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease
• 2005 - The Live 8 concert was held in cities around the world.
• 2008 - The gravestone of Ian Curtis (Joy Division) was stolen.
• 2009 - Blur reunited for their 20th anniversary for a two-day superconcert in London.
