• 1957 - The Grand Ole Opry was televised for the first time.
• 1964 - Harold Box and the rest of the members of Buddy and the Kings were killed in the plane crash of a Cesna Skyhawk piloted by the group's drummer. Box had replaced Buddy Holly in the Crickets.
• 1969 - Columbia Records announced they would take action against the makers of the Bob Dylan bootleg Great White Wonder.
• 1972 - Filming began on the film That'll Be the Day with David Essex, Ringo Starr and Keith Moon.
• 1978 - Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols tried to commit suicide while being held at Rikers Island Prison in New York awaiting trial for the murder of his girlfriend.
• 1987 - The movie Who's That Girl with Madonna opened in London.
• 1989 - Nirvana played in Europe for the first time in Newcastle, England.
• 1995 - Def Leppard played three shows on three continents in 24 hours in Tangier, London and Vancouver.
• 1995 - Tone-Loc was ordered to take anger management classes after an altercation with a pizza delivery person.
• 1995 - Yolanda Saldivar, the president of the Selena fan club, was convicted of murdering the singer on March 31, 1995.
• 1998 - A federal judge blocked a St. Louis High School marching band from playing the Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit, saying that the principle has the right to stop the song, known for drug references, from being used in a 60's medley.
• 1998 - Eddie Nichols of the Royal Crown Revue was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer in Toledo, OH.
• 2002 - Kanye West broke his jaw when he was in a single-car accident after falling asleep at the wheel.
• 2002 - A U.S. federal judge dismissed a lawsuit by Johnnie Johnson against Chuck Berry. Johnson was looking for royalties on over thirty songs that he said he and Berry had written together but Berry had copyrighted only in his own name.
• 2005 - Cam'ron was shot through both arms trying to stop his car from being carjacked.
• 2005 - Lou Rawls gave his last performance, singing the national anthem at game two of the World Series.
• 2007 - Foxy Brown received eleven weeks in solitary confinement after fighting with another inmate in prison.
• 2009 - Bon Jovi announced their The Circle World Tour that would last two years.
