• 1948 - George Morgan became a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
• 1953 - Carl Butler made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.
• 1954 - Elvis Presley performed for the first time on the Louisiana Hayride.
• 1956 - Love Me Tender, Elvis Presley's first film, premiered
• 1962 - A Motown package tour opened in Washington, DC with Marvin Gaye, the Supremes, the Miracles, Mary Wells and 12-year-old Stevie Wonder.
• 1963 - It was announced the Beatles would play at this year's Royal Command Performance.
• 1966 - Grace Slick performed with the Jefferson Airplane for the first time at the Fillmore West in San Francisco. It's one year to the day since Slick and her group, The Great Society, played with the Airplane at Longshoreman's Hall in the same city.
• 1967 - Joan Baez and 123 others were arrested blocking the entrance to an induction station in Oakland, CA.
• 1968 - The New Yardbirds, who will become Led Zeppelin, play their first live show.
• 1972 - Creedence Clearwater Revival split up.
• 1972 - Jimmie Davis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
• 1981 - Bob Dylan opened his Shot of Love tour in Milwaukee, WI.
• 1986 - A 60^th birthday concert was held for Chuck Berry in St. Louis. The show would become the film Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll.
• 1990 - Naiom Judd announced that she was retiring from the Judds due to her fight with Hepatitis C.
• 1992 - A 30^th anniversary concert was held for Bob Dylan in Madison Square Garden with a long lineup of guest performers including George Harrison, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and Roger McGuinn. One of the low-lights of the show was Sinead O'Connor being booed reciting Bob Marley's War. Two weeks before she had ripped up a picture of the Pope on Saturday Night Live.
• 2001 - Two security guards were fired when they refused to let Bob Dylan into his own concert.
• 2002 - Billy Joel completed his treatment for substance abuse.
• 2003 - Simon & Garfunkel opened their Old Friends tour in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
• 2003 - Courtney Love attempted to obtain custody of her daughter who had been in the care of Kurt Cobain's mother since Courtney was arrested on drug charges.
• 2006 - CBGB closed after one final show by Patti Smith.
• 2007 - Madonna signed with Live Nation for recording and touring, the first time a major star had agreed to such an all-inclusive deal. The amount was reported as $120 million over ten years.
