• 1928 - DeFord Bailey cut eight sides in Nashville, TN. They were the first recording made in what would eventually be called Music City U.S.A.
• 1955 - Earl Scruggs was involved in a serious car accident.
• 1964 - Brian Epstein's book, A Cellar of Noise, is published.
• 1965 - Manfred Mann entered the Soviet Union to become the first western rock band allowed to tour in the communist country.
• 1967 - All of the members of the Grateful Dead were arrested for marijuana possession at their San Francisco home.
• 1968 - Holland/Dozier/Holland were sued by Motown for breach of contract with the label saying the songwriting team hadn't written anything since late-1967.
• 1977 - The bodies of Elvis Presley and his mother Gladys were moved to Graceland after an unsuccessful attempt to steal the singer's body.
• 1980 - Leaveil Degree of the Whispers started a two-year jail sentence for his part in a diamond robbery.
• 1981 - Terry Hall, Neville Staples and Lynval Golding left the Specials to form Fun Boy Three.
• 1982 - Peter Gabriel and Steve Hacket performed with Genesis to benefit Gabriel's WOMAD project in Buckinghamshire, England.
• 1983 - Agnetha Faltskog from ABBA was involved in a car accident and was hospitalized for a concussion.

• 1994 - John Mellencamp announced that he had recently had a heart attack.

• 1996 - A Pearl Jam concert in Hartford, CT ended with a riot.
• 1999 - John Paul Jones played his first solo concert in Galway, Ireland.
• 2001 - Come Together: A Night for John Lennon's Words and Music was held at Radio City Music Hall in New York with Alanis Morissette, Moby, Stone Temple Pilots, the Dave Mathews Band and host Kevin Spacey.
• 2002 - A judge ruled that Adam Ant would not be jailed for threatening bar patrons in London with a replica gun due to mental illness.
• 2002 - Robbie Williams signed what was, at the time, the biggest record contract in British history (£80 million).
• 2003 - John Mellencamp received the Woody Guthrie Award.
• 2003 - Courtney Love was hospitalized for a suspected drug overdose after she was picked up outside the scene of a robbery at her former manager's house.
• 2003 - Atom Willard, formerly of Rocket From the Crypt, becomes the new drummer for the Offspring.
• 2006 - The man who shot Marc Cohn in the head during a carjacking is sentenced to 36 years in prison.
• 2007 - Britney Spears was ordered by a judge to turn her two children over to former husband Kevin Federline.
