  • 1955 - Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins opened an 11-date tour in Abilene, TX.
  • 1960 - Aretha Franklin played live for the first time at the Village Vanguard in New York.
  • 1962 - The Beatles appeared for the first time on any chart when they entered the U.K. singles with Love Me Do.
  • 1969 - Muddy Waters is injured in an auto accident that takes the lives of three others.
  • 1976 - Kitty Wells and Paul Cohen were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
  • 1982 - Marty Robbins, Lefty Frizell and Roy Horton were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
  • 1989 - Michael Jackson attended the dedication of the Michael Jackson Auditorium in a Hollywood, CA elementary school. The name would stay for 14 years until parents demanded it be removed.
  • 1990 - Dave Grohl played with Nirvana for the first time.
  • 1991 - Apple Corporation, the Beatles entity and Apple Computers settled a lawsuit over their respective logos with Apple Computers reportedly paying $29 million.
  • 1995 - Suge Knight posted $1.4 million bail for Tupac Shakur in exchange for a three record deal.
  • 1997 - A tribute to Muddy Waters at the Kennedy Center in Washington included performances from Bo Diddley, Greg Allman, Buddy Guy, John Hiatt and Keb' Mo'.
  • 1999 - Tommy Lee of Motley Crue was arrested for inciting a riot at a show in North Carolina by pouring a drink over a guards head and urging the crowd to attack him.
  • 2001 - 98 Degrees were sued by their former management company who alleged that they found and built the groups career only to be wrongfully terminated.
  • 2005 - Rod Stewart received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
  • 2006 - Madonna adopted a one-year-old boy in Malawi.
  • 2006 - Lead singer Justin Hawkins left the Darkness to continue drug rehabilitation.
  • 2010 - George Michael was released from a Suffolk, England prison after serving four weeks for driving under the influence of drugs.
