• 1967 - A group of British Monkees fans protested Davy Jones' being drafted by marching from London's Marble Arch to the U.S. Embassy. He was eventually exempted for being the chief caregiver for his father.
• 1971 - The Rolling Stones moved out of England, becoming Tax-exiles.
• 1972 - Elvis Presley started a short U.S. tour in Buffalo, NY.
• 1978 - Duran Duran played live for the first time in Birmingham, England.
• 1980 - R.E.M. played their first live show in Atlanta, GA.
• 1982 - Record World magazine ceased publication.
• 1984 - Marvin Gaye's funeral was held at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Los Angeles.
• 1985 - Over 5,000 radio stations around the world played the single We Are the World at 3:50 PM GMT.
• 1987 - Drummer Buddy Rich's funeral was held. Attendees included Frank Sinatra and Artie Shaw.

• 2000 - Jose Feliciano is inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame.
• 2000 - Trace Adkins had two fingers crushed while working on his farm when a 400-pound boulder came lose and rolled across them.
• 2001 - David Bowie started his BowieRadio on-line radio station.
• 2002 - R.E.M.'s Peter Buck is acquitted of charges in an altercation during a trans-Atlantic flight.
• 2006 - Marion "Suge" Knight filed for bankruptcy for himself and Death Row Records. The action was a result of his losing a $100 million lawsuit brought against him by an associate who said they co-started the label.
• 2008 - iTunes passed Wal-Mart to become the biggest music retailer in the U.S.
• 2011 - A statue of Kurt Cobain of Nirvana was unveiled in his hometown of Aberdeen, WA.
