  • 1959 - The radio program Your Hit Parade airs for the last time after being on the air 24 years.
  • 1961 - Bob Dylan recorded a harmonica part for the Harry Belafonte album The Midnight Special.
  • 1968 - Apple Records turned down a chance to sign David Bowie.
  • 1968 - Keith Moon of the Who drove his Lincoln into a motel swimming pool.
  • 1969 - Paul McCartney told the world that he wasn't dead.
  • 1970 - Grace Slick and Abbie Hoffman went to a party at the White House where they planned on slipping Tricia Nixon LSD. They didn't go through with it.
  • 1976 - Paul and Linda McCartney spent the evening at the home of John Lennon where they almost took a cab to 30 Rock to make a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was the last time they were together.
  • 1977 - Talking Heads begin their first European tour, supporting the Ramones.
  • 1977 - Joan Baez and Santana performed for the inmates at Soledad Prison.
  • 1979 - Georgia On My Mind was made the state song of Georgia.
  • 1984 - R.E.M. started their first full tour of the U.K.
