- 1964 - According to Billboard, the sale of Beatles singles accounted for 60% of the 45 market.
- 1965 - Eric Clapton quit the Yardbirds to join John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
- 1966 - Rod Stewart went solo, leaving the band Steampacket.
- 1971 - Brewer & Shipley entered the U.S. charts with One Toke Over the Line, a song that many radio stations banned even though the duo said Toke was short for Token.
- 1976 - The Jackson 5 became the Jacksons as they moved from Motown to Epic Records.
- 1977 - Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Blondie started a North American tour in Montreal.
- 1987 - Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
- 1987 - Bryan Adams' Heat of the Night becomes the first cassingle released.
- 1996 - Glen Ballard had a commendation that had been given to him by the state of Mississippi as they objected to his participation in the album Jagged Little Pill by Alannis Morissette.
- 2000 - Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong refused to participate in a Supremes reunion tour with Diana Ross due to money differences.
- 2000 - Blink-182 end their European tour early when both Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker come down with strep throat.
- 2002 - Sebastian Bach was arrested after he threatened the life of a bartender in Middletown, NJ. He also was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphanalia.
- 2003 - A jury ruled that Michael Jackson must pay an Australian promoter $5.3 million for backing out of two 1999 concerts.
- 2006 - Black Sabbath, Blondie, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Sex Pistols, Miles Davis and Herb Alpert & Jerry Moss were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The Sex Pistols refused to attend. Blondie's performance was interrupted when former members rushed the stage.
- 2007 - Starbucks announced their Hear Music label which would become the home of artists like Paul McCartney, James Taylor and Elvis Costello.
- 2008 - Michael Jackson refinanced Neverland Ranch so that it wouldn't be sold off to pay for back taxes.
