• 1949 - Little Jimmy Dickens had his first recording session.
• 1957 - The Cavern Club opened in Liverpool.
• 1970 - A John Lennon art exhibit of erotic lithographs at the London Art Gallery was closed down by the authorities for alleged obscenity.
• 1978 - Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols was rushed to a hospital after falling through a glass door in San Francisco.
• 1980 - Paul McCartney was placed in a Japanese jail for nine days after he was found in the possession of marijuana.
• 1984 - Paul and Linda McCartney were arrested for drug possession in the Barbados.
• 1987 - Jools Holland was suspended by the U.K.'s Channel 4 after saying “groovy fuckers” during a live ad broadcast during children's hours.
• 1988 - Tina Turner set the record (to that date) for largest audience for a single artist when she played before 182,000 people in Rio De Janeiro.
• 1990 - Ike Turner was sentenced to four years in prison on charges of driving under the influence of cocaine.
• 1994 - Donny Osmond fought Danny Bonaduce (Partridge Family) for charity.
• 1996 - Jimmy Buffett's seaplane was fired at by Jamaican authorities who had mistaken it for a drug runner's craft. Also on board was U2's Bono.
• 1996 - Wayne Newton performed his 25,000th Las Vegas show.
• 1998 - The documentary Kurt and Courtney was pulled from the Sundance Film Festival when it was learned that there were rights issues, including music rights.
• 1999 - Trisha Yearwood was asked to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry on the Ryman stage by Ricky Skaggs.
• 1999 - The Whiskey-a-Go-Go in Los Angeles began a 35th Anniversary celebration with shows by Robbie Krieger, the Grass Roots, Johnny Rivers, Nancy Sinatra, Jan & Dean, Randy Bachman and Martha Reeves.

• 2002 - Dido had her Brit Award nomination for British Newcomer revoked when members of the nominating committee realized she had been around for a few years.
• 2004 - Michael Jackson plead not guilty to seven charges of child molestation.
• 2005 - Elvis Presley's One Night became the 1,000th number one on the U.K. Singles chart.
• 2008 - An intimate Radiohead show had to be moved to a larger club after authorities intervened. 1,500 showed up for the show that promised tickets to the first 200 fans.
• 2009 - Boy George was sentenced to 15 months in prison for falsely imprisoning a male escort.
