  • 1930 - Huddie Leadbetter (Leadbelly) began his last prison sentence in Angola, LA. He was pardoned four years later.
  • 1959 - Cashbox magazine began using the red “bullet” to indicate records with the strongest upward movement.
  • 1966 - The police were called when over 100 people barricaded themselves in Liverpool's Cavern Club. The club had announced it was going to close because of debts.

  • 1977 - Ray Charles was attacked by an audience member who tried to strangle him with a rope.
