• 1949 - RCA Records issued the first vinyl 45.
• 1962 - Owen Bradley's Music Row recording studio was purchased by Columbia Records.
• 1963 - Neil Young made his first professional appearance at a Winnipeg country club.
• 1964 - The governor of Indiana declares the Kingsmen's Louie Louie pornographic.
• 1965 - P.J. Proby split his pants while performing in Luton, England. Proby was banned from playing in U.K. halls or TV.
• 1968 - The Who started their third U.S. tour in San Jose, CA.
• 1969 - Joni Mitchell made her Carnegie Hall debut.
• 1977 - Led Zeppelin postponed their U.S. tour to June after Robert Plant contracted tonsillitis.
• 1977 - The film Genesis in Concert debuts in London.
• 1982 - It was Bar-Kays day in Memphis, TN.
• 1988 - After twelve years together, the Cars announced they were breaking up.
• 1995 - Richey Edwards of the Manic Street Preachers disappeared and has never been found. He was declared officially dead in 2008.
• 1997 - Boy George was beaten up by two bouncers outside a London club when he tried jumping the line.
• 1999 - Marilyn Manson left the stage at a Perth, Australia concert after having objects thrown at him. A riot ensued where 400 were injured.
• 2000 - C.C. DeVille announced he was leaving Poison (although he would rejoin).
• 2001 - A showing of photography by Elton John was pulled from an Atlanta, GA museum when they were deemed too explicit.
• 2001 - LeAnn Rimes publicly apologized to fans for her recent problems and for her latest album that was released by Curb without any input from the singer.
• 2002 - Kirk Hammett of Metallica received the first Guitar World magazine Hall of Fame Award.
• 2002 - Nick Carter agreed to counseling and community service to avoid a sentence for resisting an officer.
• 2004 - The infamous nipplegate occurred at the Super Bowl when one of Janet Jackson's breasts are exposed by Justin Timberlake during a half-time performance.
• 2006 - Split Enz announce they would reform for an Australian tour.
• 2008 - NASA announced they would beam the Beatles song Across the Universe at the North Star, Polaris, 431 light-years from Earth. The honor was for the songs 40th anniversary.
