  • 1957 - Alan Freed's TV series, The Big Beat, premiered on ABC. It would only last four episodes and was reportedly canceled when Frankie Lymon was seen dancing with a white girl.
  • 1959 - Domenico Modugno won Record and Song of the Year at the first Grammy Awards for Nel Blu Del Pinto di Blu (Volare).  Album of the Year went to Henry Mancini for The Music From Peter Gunn.
  • 1959 - Dick Clark announced the first movie that would be made by his production company would be called Harrison High.
  • 1963 - The Wilburn Brothers' nationally syndicated television show premiered.
  • 1964 - The Moody Blues formed.
  • 1968 - Mary Hopkin won her section of the British TV talent show Opportunity Knocks.
  • 1970 - Four students protesting at Kent State University were shot and killed by National Guard Troops. The inspiration for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's Ohio.
