On This Day:
  • 1965 - The limousine carrying the Rolling Stones away from a show in Long Beach, CA was attacked by fans who started to cave the roof in while standing on it. 
  • 1969 - Jack Casady of the Jefferson Airplane was arrested for marijuana possession. He was given a 2-1/2 year suspended sentence. 
  • 1969 - Pete Townshend was jailed for assaulting a man who, unbeknownst to him was a plain clothes police officer, who jumped on the stage during their show to warn the crowd of a fire. He was fined $30.
  • 1970 - Randy Bachman left the Guess Who.
  • 1972 - The Oakland Coliseum hosted The Baddest Soul Show of 1982 with Al Green, Etta James, Joe Simon with J.J. Malone, Little Denise, Harvey Mandel and Paul Lagos.
  • 1974 - Brian May was flown back to England, leaving Queen's tour of the U.S., when he collapsed from hepatitis.
  • 1976 - Patti Smith played her first show in Britain at the Roundhouse in London.
  • 1980 - Trevor Horn and Geoff Downes of the Buggles joined Yes, replacing Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson.
  • 1980 - Dr. George C. Nichopoulous, personal physician to Elvis Presley, was indicted in Memphis of 14 counts of over-prescribing drugs.
  • 1983 - The special Motown 25: Yesterday, Today and Forever aired, including the first performance of Michael Jackson's Moonwalk.
  • 1984 - Ozzy Osbourne was arrested in Dallas for public intoxication while walking down Beale Street.
  • 1992 - Kiss started the European leg of their Revenge World Tour in Glasgow, Scotland.
  • 1998 - The Rolling Stones were forced to cancel a number of stops on their Bridges to Babylon Tour when Keith Richards fell reaching for a book in his home and broke a number of ribs.
  • 2000 - Prince announced that he will begin using his name again.
  • 2000 - An exhibition of art called What My Heart Has Seen opens in London.  The artist is Tony Bennett.
