- 1930 - Huddie Leadbetter (Leadbelly) began his last prison sentence in Angola, LA. He was pardoned four years later.

- 1966 - The police were called when over 100 people barricaded themselves in Liverpool's Cavern Club. The club had announced it was going to close because of debts.

- 1977 - Ray Charles was attacked by an audience member who tried to strangle him with a rope.

- 2005 - Michael Jackson's trial for child molestation opens.
- 2005 - A 24-year-old member of 50 Cent's entourage was shot during an interview with the rapper at a West Village radio station.
- 2008 - Boy George plead not guilty to a charge of imprisoning a male prostitute at his home.
