- 1969 - Cindy Birdsong of the Supremes was kidnapped by a maintenance worker from her apartment building and had to jump out of his moving car on the San Diego Freeway to escape.
- 1969 - George Harrison joined Delaney & Bonnie & Friends, including Eric Clapton, for the rest of their current tour.
- 1973 - The members of the Who are arrested in Montreal for allegedly destroying a hotel suite.
- 1974 - Ravi Shankar had to leave a tour with George Harrison to be treated for chest pains in Chicago.
- 1981 - Dreamgirls opened on Broadway. The show was loosely based on the career of the Supremes.
- 1983 - MTV aired the full version of Michael Jackson's Thriller for the first time.
- 1986 - Jerry Lee Lewis admitted himself to the Betty Ford Clinic to kick painkillers.
- 1991 - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Shirelles, B.J. Thomas and Gene Pitney, saying they were owed $1.2 million in royalties.
- 1995 - The Guinness Book of World Records named The Sign by Ace of Base as the biggest selling debut record of all time.
- 1996 - Adam Duritz of Counting Crows severed a ligament and tore cartilage in his knee when he fell during a show in New York.
- 1997 - A man was killed during a Rolling Stones concert when he fell from the balcony of the Pontiac Silverdome.
- 1997 - A Philadelphia record store filed what would become a class-action lawsuit against EMI, Sony, WEA, Universal, Bartlesman and Polydor, saying that they had “conspired to raise, fix and maintain at artificially high and non-competitive levels the wholesale prices of CDs.”
- 1998 - Jimmy Buffett did a benefit concert in Mobile, AL for the victims of hurricane Georges.

- 2002 - Liam Gallagher of Oasis was arrested after kicking a police officer during a fight.

- 2003 - Ray Charles announced he had undergone hip replacement surgery.
- 2004 - Lynn Anderson was charged with drunk driving when an officer found her passed out behind the wheel of her car.
- 2005 - Irv and Chris Gotti, owners of the label The Inc., were cleared of charges that they were laundering drug money through the company.
